Just because you don't believe in God doesn't mean that you can't celebrate a holiday with the rest of your family; in my case I see Jesus as a moral teacher. so whats so wrong with getting toghter to show the importance of family relationships and exchanging gifts?

I'm agnostic and yes, I do celebrate Christmas. Christmas is a time were my family and I get together, have a big dinner, and give/recieve presents. We don't have any religious meaning when we celebrate Christmas. Why not celebrate Christmas though? It's like the best time of the year....

Heh... I didn't even know Christmas had anything to do with religion untill I was somewhere around 10. Maybe younger, I don't remember. It's like two entirely seperate holidays. They don't really have anything to do with eachother. For the most part, Christmas is commercialised.

Its funny because i asked that exact same question in my thread a while ago

yet i didn't get as much responses as you have

but i have figured out that Christmas has lost all of its religious values it is all now about being nice and giving/getting presents

I'm honestly not sure. I've heard of Athiests who celebrate christmas, and others who are against it. And if not, they most likley dont celebrate it as a differnet holiday if the day represents no meaning in their religion.

I am both agnostic and Jewish at the same time, if that makes any sense. And yes, I do celebrate Christmas. As far as not believing in Jesus, not true. People that aren't Christian believe that he existed, but that he was just a man; a man that taught people how to be good to one another, but not necessarily divine.

I celebrate Christmas mostly for my mom. She used to be Christian, but then when she married my dad converted. She still likes to celebrate it, and so do all the rest of us. How can you not when presents are involved?

Does anyone else realize that this thread got superbumped?

Besides that, Christmas is celebrated with no religious predications today. Christmas is run by consumerism.

What kind of question is that? Christmas is such a commercialized holiday that I doubt most people even care if it's christian related or not. Even most Christians are thinking of presents and holiday travel when they think of Christmas, not the birth of their Lord. The holiday has lost much of its original meaning; now it's all based on retailers trying to move products. Think about it, why else would the radio begin playing Christmas tunes during the first of November, and why would the day after Thanksgiving be the biggest shopping day of the year?
In other words, atheists don't care what Christmas is based on, they simply use it as an excuse to go on vacation and see family, just like everyone else.
