Now is when I wish I didn't have a 4 year old Quad Core.

I'm using Constant Quality Mode. Is that different : |
The new x264 build with Megui is way more efficient, stronger, and overall better than before. Using the same CRF number with the same x264 settings (which is always the same quality, the variable is the file size it takes to reach that quality), I found myself getting much smaller file size in a fraction of the time.

CRF = Constant Quality Mode.

The good thing about CRF is that the quality per file size will be just as good as a double pass at VBR. The bad thing is that you don't quite know what the file size is going to play until you do it. The higher the number, the smaller the file size. So keep that in mind when playing with it.

Is this something you are going to be releasing to the public? If so, I wouldn't recommend doing "HD Insane" because that has the "level" set to unrestricted. I'd recommend changing that to 4.1 instead so that people don't yet at you when it doesn't play well on their computer. Much more demanding to play back, which reflects the lower file size compared to when you encode at 4.1.

No it doesn't, but if you make a good video, you're cutting yourself short by releasing it in bad quality.

Google taught me the most. LowerStrife and Crest helped me get on my feat with this last year, and Davobrosia has been helping me lately with some of the more advanced settings.

It's still DXVA from what it says. And the level is still 4.1 It's sort of like a music video thing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I was going to post it and also put it on youtube.

Half way done and projects 125mb, which is I guess big, but I was hoping it would land around 250mb. Now I feel like the quality won't be as good. I'll let it finish and see.

What preset did you use? Some of the DXVA presets default to Unrestricted (which doesn't make sense to me, but whatever). That's why I made that preset I included in the zip, it's basically the x264 DXVA preset with "level" turned down to 4.1 and "b-frames" cranked up to 16 with a CRF value of 18.

DXVA-HD-Insane.
Code:
--profile high --level 4.1 --pass 2 --bitrate 1000 --stats ".stats" --slow-firstpass --thread-input --deblock -1:-1 --b-adapt 2 --ref 4 --vbv-bufsize 50000 --vbv-maxrate 50000 --merange 32 --me tesa --direct auto --subme 8 --trellis 2 --no-dct-decimate --output "output" "input"
Then I set it to very slow.

0.3.4.0

I guess. I think I grabbed the presets off Doom9.

Try the 3.4.17 one, it's in the link at the top. I'd assume it's better since its newer, it's been working great for me. Then again, there might be little to no difference between 3.4.0 and 3.4.17.

I uploaded the megui build by itself; it isn't an install file. Simply extract and run.
