Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on.

Prices change significantly within 6 months. I agree, wait till you have the cash - no point in looking now.

Even though things will change in 6 months you should get a SSD.
I know it's way more expensive than a usual HDD, but editing is that much more smoother when you don't have to wait for anything.

If you're willing to build your own computer, you can save a lot of money and make a pretty nice machine. Here's my build, which totaled out to about $800.
  • Asus P7P55D Pro Motherboard ($170)
  • 3 WD Caviar Blue 500 GB Hard Drives ($55 each)
  • ATI 4870 ($140)
  • i7 860 Intel Processor (I got this through a special program for cheap, they cost about $250)
  • Corsair XMS3 DDR3 4GB Ram ($90)
  • Case and Power Supply (Should cost about $100-150 at most)
That comes out to about $800, and it would be more than capable of handling any of the items you want your computer to be able to do. It's just that you have to be willing to put some time into building it. Oh, and I forgot to mention you'd want an aftermarket cooling unit for the processor, but other than that you'd be set.
