I have a feeling this movie isnt going to be very good at all, from the trailers and clips I've seen. Dat cgi though looks incredible, ill see it just for that. Its also pretty incredible that they actually MADE the set for inside of the robot, moving and all.

It's dumb fun. Monsters vs Robots. If you go into the theater expecting something intelligent, you'll be disappointed.

Unfortunately, this movie is tracking poorly so it very likely will not make much money its opening weekend. The only hope it has of making its money back is the word-of-mouth factor.

I feel like U.S. cinema's need for any sequel to any film is at damn near an all-time low.

Same here. I think I read it's expected to make up to $30 million this weekend. That's horrible considering the budget. Something like this make at least double that.

Hopefully Pacific Rim pulls a miracle. I've been a little excited to see At the Mountains of Madness, Del Toro's passion project.

Movie looks great. It will probably pull a Dredd and come back and make a killing in the home media markets (DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital)

I like how the dudes looks like Spartans too.. so many nods to popular video games. I could see this gaining a cult following even depending how over the top it is.

You have to keep in mind that the vast majority of the general audience is going to get nearly all of its info from the broadcast trailers and, after release, word of mouth, which is, unfortunately, a big kick in the dick. Consider:

- The cast is great, but it contains almost no one that has a massive draw with general audiences. Notice how all the recent trailer (on t.v., at least) really push Charlie Day, even though he's obviously a side character. [inb4 Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba are popular....cause, on a relative scale, they're really not.]

- If Del Toro's name weren't attached to this project, a fair percentage would probably brush the movie off as looking silly. For the most part, general audiences have no clue who Del Toro is. Guess what they're thinking?

- The market has already been saturated by three mega-destruction, giant robot blockbusters in the past 6 years or so. While the Transformers franchise has consistently murdered the box office, opinions from young adults and teenagers seems to have gone steadily downhill. To a general audience, Pacific Rim probably seems something like a rip-off.

- From a pure marketing perspective, the title "Pacific Rim" is terrible. I imagine Del Toro had to fight for that one.

Anyways, I'm hoping word-of-mouth is killer. There are a number of other projects on Del Toro's plate that sound far more interesting to me, and success here would probably give him some clout in bringing at least one of those to life.
