lol your problem is you're eating chicken, rice, and veggies. Eat food that is calorically dense.

6'2 140 pounds. I'm doing 3 workouts a week plus 2 cardio days (swim/running/hiking) but I do 10 hours manual labor aday on top of that. Chicken and rice/veggies is just so easy to make and seal at night to get ready for the morning. Other options that are not so expensive?

I eat that at night before bed. Grab a giant spoon and a cup of milk and a bagel and go to town.

usually skip breakfast, have a normal lunch, something in between (food, not snacks), dinner, late night pizza/other food.

need to start eating my breakfast again and do 5 meals a day. i work out about 8/9 hours a week. not that much but as i usually did like 4/5 it is an improvement. im sure if i was actually disciplined on my diet i would see results much faster but at least im doing something.

Yea as others said, don't be eating chicken and rice. Those are very light on calories, so you definitely aren't eating 5500, or you'd be gaining weight easily, especially at that weight. You're probably overdoing your workouts as well.

More eggs
More milk
More cheese
More peanut butter

Stop doing cardio. You're already doing the 10 hours of manual labor, why do you feel you need even more? It's just hindering you.

Only reason I do cardio is because my lungs blow from smoking so much dope and cigs the past few years (been off both for 8 months now). I'll just have to find a way to add those things and then some during work that's the only reason I do chicken and rice since its easy to microwave and prepare. As for workouts I'm only doing a simple 5x5 routine right now with mainly compound lifts. Bench, Squat, barbell rows, upper/lower back and crunches every other workout.

Squatted 280 for 5 today. Pushed my knees in just as our lord and savior Danny boy Green said, and I feel somewhat of a difference. Getting my confidence back on squats a little. Died on front squats though, I need to work on them.

So what are the thoughts on smith machines? I typically don't hear much good about them online and I personally don't ever really use them. The place I workout when I'm home doesn't have a regular squat rack. Normally I'd just do DB squats there, but just getting opinions. I'm going back to school this weekend anyways.

Just not as a primary exercise. Use it like a leg press. Actually just use a leg press.
